Winifred Holtby was a prolific writer on many topics, and a noted journalist of her time, contributing to The Manchester Guardian and to the feminist publication Time and Tide of which she was a director, among many others. Her most famous book is the frequently-filmed novel South Riding, edited by her great friend Vera Brittain and published after Holtby’s tragically early death from Bright’s disease.
