One of the leading lights of the post-war St Ives group , the artist Peter Lanyon worked in various media, including collage and pottery, but his greatest impact was as a painter, in particular a painter of landscapes where his modernist style brought in elements of abstract and pop art. He served with the RAF in WWII, and after the war gliding became his hobby and his nemesis, Lanyon dying of injuries received in a gliding accident at the age of 46.
