John Lawton is an influential ecologist who has headed several important environmental bodies including WWF UK, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, The National Environment Research Council, and The Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. As an academic he worked for three years at Oxford before moving to York, and at ICL. His major area of research is the biodiversity of birds and insects. Climate change in general, and extreme weather events in particular, have informed his research and been the background to comments about those ignoring scientific evidence regarding that subject.
