William Leverhulme
Born in Bolton, LancashireBorn on 19th of September 1851
Died on 7th of May 1925
Leverhulme was a brilliant businessman who built a massive fortune, starting from his father’s grocery shop and ending as one of the great industrialists of Europe thanks to his creation (and manufacture) of brands like Lifeboy Soap and Lux. He became a major philanthropist, though always with a patriarchal moral bent to his good works – like Port Sunlight, a model village with strict codes of conduct; and his failed attempt to revive the fishing industry in the Outer Hebrides.
