BOOK DISEWORTH HOTELS

William Lilly
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Diseworth, Leicestershire
Born on 11th of May 1602
Died on 9th of June 1681

Lilly, working as a servant, had the great good sense to marry his master’s widow and thus secure his fortune and leisure. Rather less sensibly he chose to spend his time studying astrology, as great a magnet for the deluded then as now. Careful of his safety he published a volume entitled Christian Astrology, and seeing the way the tide was running sided with Parliament in his ‘prophecies’ (though they clearly didn’t help him see the future Restoration and the difficulties it presented to Lilly). His annual almanacs were best sellers, and his work, incredibly, has been taken seriously by some even in recent years.
