Sir Neville Marriner studied at the RCM and the Paris Conservatoire, and spent time in Maine studying conducting with Pierre Monteux. He had a successful career as an orchestral and chamber music violinist, but is most celebrated for founding in 1958 The Academy of St Martin’s in the Field which he chaired until 1992, thereafter becoming Life President. Marriner has a huge number of recording credits to his name, across a range of styles, though he is perhaps most often associated with music of the Baroque period.
