BOOK ILFORD HOTELS

Ruth Pitter
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Ilford, Essex
Born on 7th of November 1897
Died on 29th of February 1992

Ruth Pitter published her first book of poetry in her early twenties, and continued to write throughout her long life. She earned her living for many years as a decorative artist – flower painting her particular forte – for her own company but more often for other people. As a traditionalist poet at a time when modernists dominated the scene her work enjoyed mixed receptions over the years, but she did receive several major awards for her work. She was a close friend of CS Lewis (whose influence made her turn to Christianity).
