1633 - 1703 . English diarist & Admiralty official.

Educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge. Became Secretary to the Admiralty in 1672, removed from office in 1688. Became president of Royal Society. His famous Dairy ran from 1 January 1660 to 31 May 1669, giving account of contemporary life, highlighting three major events including the great plague and great fire of London.
