Born 1923 - English physicist and meteorologist.

Graduated from Nottingham University. Worked on study of rain-making processes, electrification in thunderstorms and cloud physics. Organised interdisciplinary study of acid rain (1983-89). Elected FRS in 1965, won royal medal of Royal Society. Knighted in 1979.
