1903 - 1995. Conservative politician and Prime Minister.
Educated at Christ Church, Oxford. Entered parliament in 1931, was secretary to Neville Chamberlain. Held positions of Leader of the House of Lords (1957-60) and Foreign Secretary (1960-63). Surprise choice of leader after resignation of Harold Macmillan. Renounced his peerage. Defeated in the 1964 election by Harold Wilson and replaced as leader by Edward Heath. Made a life peer in 1974 when he resigned from politics.
