Trained at RADA. Acted with the Old Vic Company, London and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Won Tony award for role in Miss Saigon (1989-91). Starred as Fagin in revival of Oliver! (1994). Won Cannes Film Festival Best Actor award for Carrington (1995).
