Studied at St Andrews University. Held a number of managerial positions including Chief Executive of Shell and Chairman of British Institute of Management. Launched “Future Rail” for British Rail. Also Deputy Governor of the Bank of Scotland and Chancellor of Robert Gordon University. Knighted in 1990.
