Born 1918. Died 1894 - English physicist, radio astronomer and Nobel Prize winner.
Educated at Christ Church, Oxford. During WWII involved in research in radar. Investigated the emission of radio waves from the Sun and from the universe. Mapped radio sources by his method of aperture synthesis. Knighted in 1966. Received Nobel Prize for physics in 1974.
