Born 1800. Died 1877 - English physicist and pioneer of photography.
Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. Became a MP in 1833. Invented photogenic drawing in 1838. Patented the calotype in 1841, process of making prints from photographic negatives. Discovered method of taking instantaneous photographs. Pencil of Nature (1844) was one of first books to have photographic illustrations.
