He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art at UCL London from 1908 to 1912, and from 1914 served in the first World War. He is known for his war memorials such as Resurrection of the Soldiers, an altarpiece at the Sandham Memorial Chapel. His works were also religious in nature such as The Resurrection, Cookham (1923ˆ27). He was knighted in 1959.
