Entrapment

Year: 1999
Director: Jon Amiel
Cast: Sean Connery , Catherine Zeta-Jones , Ving Rhames, Will Patton, Maury Chaykin, Kevin McNally, Terry O'Neill, David Yip.
Set Locations:
John Amiel's 1999 film 'Entrapment' stars Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones in a tale of ever increasing intrigue and deceit. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays insurance investigator Virginia Baker (Gin), who convinces her company to allow her to pursue an ambitious plan to entrap master jewel thief Robert MacDougal (Mac), played by Sean Connery.

First Gin persuades Mac to steal a rare Chinese Mask. Things almost go badly wrong when Gin tries to turn Mac in. After almost blowing her cover when Mac bugs her conversation to her employer, Gin manages to draw Mac into an ambitious plan to steal $8 billion from the International Clearance Bank in Kuala Lumpur.

The plot thickens to the point where you are no longer sure who is playing games with whom. The intrigue is further heightened by the developing attraction between the two of lead characters.

Much of the filming took place in Britain for this film, even many of the Petronas Towers scenes in Kuala Lumpur were actually shot on a specially constructed set at Pinewood Studios in England. Other locations in Britain used include Blenheim Palace , near Woodstock in Oxfordshire. This magnificent palace was originally built in the early 18th century as a gift for John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough, in return for his victories over the French. Changes in international allegiances, however, meant that he was soon out of favour and eventually exiled for the very reasons he had been originally exalted. The palace is open to the public and has proved a major tourist attraction for many years.

The Savoy Hotel in London also features in the film, worth a visit if you fancy a taste of the high life at a location in the heart of Central London. Also featured in London are Lloyd's of London, the famous British insurance company and Borough Market, a wholesale and retail food market in Southwark, South London. Borough Market is just a stone's throw away from London Bridge. The market has been in existence since at least the 13th century but there are claims that it dates back to Roman times. In recent years it has become a fashionable place to buy food. If you are thinking of following the fashion, however, remember that the retail market only opens from Thursday to Saturday.

The romantic setting of Duart Castle on the rugged terrain of the Isle of Mull in Scotland also features in the film (the castle was also used extensively in When Eight Bells Toll). This beautiful castle is the historical seat of the MacLean Clan, and dates back at least as far as the 14th century.
