BOOK WEST WALES HOTELS

Cothi Valley, West Wales

Cothi Valley
The Cothi Valley gets its name from the River Cothi and is found in
Carmarthenshire, Wales. The valley is part of the Dolaucothi Estate,
which is owned by the National Trust. The estate once featured a
mansion house by the banks of the river, sadly the property has long
since been demolished. At Ogofau, near Pumsaint, is the site of the
Dolaucothi Roman Gold Mines. A Scheduled Ancient Monument, the mines
are the only known Roman gold mines in Britain. The valley is home to
oak and alder woodlands. These beautiful woods are thick with mosses
and lichens and home to a variety of breeding birds, including red
kite.
