Sugar Loaf, South Wales
Sugar Loaf is a mountain situated two miles north-west of Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, Wales. It is part of the Black Mountains , being the most southern and lowest of the summit peaks rising to 1,955 feet (596 metres) above sea level. Views from the top of the Sugar Loaf are spectacular, with the Cotswolds being visible to the east on a clear day. The Bristol Channel can be seen to the south and to the west the Brecon Beacons rise into view. The hill is formed from Old Red Sandstone, and is not an extinct volcano - a popular misconception that arose due to it being similar in form to a classic volcano.
