After choosing our wine in the lounge the waiter asked us to be seated at our table in the Restaurant, we were drinking our pre lunch drinks when the waiter attempted to pour our wine & we gestured to him that we had not finished our drinks.
Our wine was then served during the meal and the bottle was removed from sight. A nearby table were also drinking white wine the waiter was attending to us consecutively. Unfortunately during the meal he inadvertently poured their wine into our glasses which still had some wine remaining in them. When I informed him he apologised removed the glasses and replaced them with clean ones and continued to serve us the remainder of our chosen wine.
We did not make an issue of this in the Restaurant and were rather pleased that on this occasion we had not ordered a more expensive wine. Mistakes can be made but they can also be rectified. So we waited for the waiter to rectify his error and I was appalled that when he served the other table the remains of their bottle of wine it appeared that he did not mention his faux pas.
When paying our bill the receptionist asked us if everything was ok and I explained to her what had occurred. She then nonchalantly enquired if we enjoyed the meal.
Yes the food was ok but unfortunately we have now become slightly disenchanted with the service at Read’s. We wrote a letter to the owners but they haven't replied, looking at past reviews this appears to be the case if you send a letter of complaint they don't reply. So I will no longer recommend this restaurant to my clients.

Reads restaurant is set in a charming and elegant country house. This was our first visit so we plumped for their 6 course taster menu @ £58 per head.
The food was as good as we have ever eaten, staff were attentive and helpful. Wines were perfect.
A real special event for a birthday celebration.
We shall certainly be paying more visits in the future.
