Not impressed! Upon arrival, there was a sign on the door to check in at the hotel next door as no staff were available. On doing this, a man in a tracksuit (and much bling) walked us back to the Ascot House Hotel and hunted for our reservation details. As I had booked this room as a gift for my boyfriend, I was rather embarrassed when he read out the cost loudly in front of him. I thought it was unusual not to mention unprofessional to pay when checking in. We then proceeded to our room. We stayed in their top room which had a balcony. The room was rather nice and there was ample space, although the bathroom was small and there was only a shower. The shelf was wonky and could have fone with a dust. There was a flat screen terrestrial television but the signal was rubbish. The following morning at breakfast has to be the worst breakfast I have ever experienced in a hotel. We both ordered a full English breakfast - well, that's what it was called. The fried egg was rock hard, the tomato and mushrooms looked like they were out of a tin - not quite the way it was advertised on their website. The service was incredibly slow - both trying to place our order and for it to be served. We were only one of three tables having breakfast. The toast, however, was quite nice and the coffee not bad, but the milk tasted like UHT. We sat by the window and the ledges were filthy - I'm not quite sure how they got an award for cleanliness! All in all, we did not have a happy experience. We were annoyed that we had become victims of exaggerated advertising.
