We were seated at our table and left with menus whilst it took 15 minutes to get a glass of house white wine to our table (barrel changing, apparently).
We then ordered our meals, just main courses as we intended to have a pudding afterwards. On a Monday night it took us a further 50-60 minutes to be served our meals (and as there were only four of us this seemed like a long time), which when they came were average.
I had a veg and Stilton crumble; it was completely flavourless and contained only a tiny amount of the advertised Stilton cheese. My husband had half a duck with orange and honey sauce, which he said was almost inedible as the sauce was so tart.
On top of this, at 20:00 or so in the evening the table next to us had a little girl with them who shouted and screamed throughout our time at the restaurant, it was so loud and continuous that we could hardly have a normal conversation. The parents just left the poor child to get on with it; the staff did nothing about the noise despite everyone dining being clearly disturbed.
Once our plates were collected we waited a further 20-30 minutes to place and order for dessert, before we gave up. We made our feelings know to the bar staff who merely shrugged and said 'sorry about that'. One staff member also said we 'should have ordered at the bar', but no one told us this when we arrived and other diners were being waited on.
