Lovely day, lovely lunch, great price and served by possibly two of the very best waitresses Chiswick has to offer - efficiency itself

Hidden away in a backstreet near the A4, since its recent refurbishment the Hole in the Wall has become a very pleasant place to go for a Sunday lunch. We visited yesterday and despite the pub - and its garden - being full of people, the Sunday roast chicken was as good as we've come to expect from this pub. A plus is that the vegetables actually form part of the meal rather than being a hard little afterthought as they are in some places. Drinks included Addlestone's Cloudy Cider which was very refreshing and pleasant on a warm afternoon. Service was also efficient and friendly. A few months ago we did feel the quality of the food had gone down, but judging by yesterday's experience it is back up again.

The lovely (but windy) summers day only added to what was a thoroughly enjoyable lunch at this small pub in a chiswick back street. The roast chicken was terrific - although once I saw the size of another punters Roast Beef I sulked for a bit - coming as it did with perfect roast potatoes and a great selection of roasted roots. My companions filo parcels hit the spot and our youngster steamed through his goujons in record time. The menu was good and extensive and to be honest, with more time, we would have had both starter and pudding. A lovely garden (unusual for this part of the world) good attentive staff offering table service and half decent prices - 8/10 - Go!

Lovely service, lovely garden even lovely weather but..food was average to be honest. My chips were done skin on and were way too soft and therefore oily. Fish portion small, though batter nice and light. However dressing on salad served on the plate had made the bottom of the batter wet! On a plus point menu has expanded and was very 'quick lunch' orientated which is probably what the punters want. Left a bit disappointed but will be back as have been before and it was excellent.

I run this web site and most surprised by the review below. We have always found the food at the hole in the wall good (not fabulous but then this is a pub after all) and the staff have never been anything other than delightful

Good Sunday lunch but terrible food during the week, poor quality and extremely poor value for money. Service is also very poor. We visited for a meal this evening and were horrified by the delivery to our table. Terrible vegetable pie -- all white sauce and no vegetables. Shocking. And disgracefully prepared pork belly, overcooked and virtually inedible, yet soggy surrounds. And the prices were completely over the top considering the quality of the meals. We have never complained about food in London, however we had no choice in this instance. The waitress didn't acknowledge our comments, nor were we visited by any other member of staff for a conversation or apology. I'm very disappointed as we have visited many times for weekend lunches, and I'm frankly in disbelief at the quality and service received on this occasion. This is the second time we've visited on a weeknight, and both have resulted in an unsatisfactory experience. We won't be returning.

this place really does deserve to do well. whilst the menu isnt long everything is very well cooked, well presented and served expertly. this also has to offer just about the best value of any of the many food places in w4. go

had a very nice lunch in the garden limited menu but all we had was delicious (sticky duck drums, noodle salad very good) and nice to have table service in a pub. all in all very good indeed
