Hi, I just noticed that the reviews here a very out of date.
The pub reopened in October 08 with new management. The people there, the food, wine and ambiance is now really good. It’s a pub where you can pop for a pint, but it’s the food that makes the place. From pub classics to real treats. Prices are £10 -£20 for mains, about £15 for a good bottle of wine.
We went to a Gourmet Wine evening there a while back, and that was really good too.
Definitely one to try... we have been three times now. Hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

Having eaten here before under the previous management we could not have expected the stark difference between then and now!
The first thing that strikes as strange is that there appear to be no adults running the estabishment. We were shown to a table laid in the most rudimentary of fashions and served Gin & Tonic with flat tonic!
The serving staff were very plesant but clearly had no little idea of correct service. The food was dreadful, limp salad, leaves tinged with brown. Duck casserole (dressed up as another, finer sounding dish) which was burnt and bland; and Sirloin steak which was more fat than steak.
By desert it had become amusing, when the puddings were delivered with ice cream/sorbet having slid all over the plate on transit from the kitchen, ruining any artistic effect, the desire to laugh out load was tremendous.
Apart from the "Sancerre" being exactly as it should, the £153 for four (no tip) was ridiculous. This wasn't just a bad night for them, sadly the owner has no idea how to run a restaurant.
Not to be recommended unless you have a very curious sense of humour and no appetite.

I would not recommend this restaurant after Saturday 6th October 2007. I had a party of 12 people to accommodate so I emailed the menu that was on their website to my party to ensure everyone was happy with the menu. Everyone agreed the choice was fantastic so I booked the table. When we arrived there was no Hoegarden which was preferred by one of the party, we weren?t offered a wine list, the menu we were given wasn?t the same as the website - in fact there was a choice of 5 mains one of which was vegetarian and then we were informed that one of the mains was unavailable so we had a choice of 3 effectively. Then they ran out of Bacardi (!) It was decided between us all that the choice of food wasn?t acceptable (especially taking into account the money we would be paying) so we decided to leave - We then had to find a restaurant to accomodate 12 on a Saturday night and thankfully The Thai Lord, Farnham squeezed us in. On Tuesday 9th October I phoned The Hampshire Arms & I spoke with the manager, Luc Helye. An apology would have been nice but all he was worried about was the money he had lost out on. I did suggest that when people book a table with them maybe they should advise them that they have changed their menu.
