My self and my partner Karen Wright took over the pub from the previous tenants on 01/10/2008. The previous tenants had been here for 37 years and the place has needed a new lease of life. We have updated our menu, wine list and bar stock. We have established a weekly quiz which is well attended and a darts team which is well supported. We have now hosted a number of local events which have been very well received and enjoyed by those who have attended. We have introduced live music and are endeavouring to create a much warmer and more lively atmosphere. If you want a friendly and enjoyable visit to a place that boasts the best pub view in Cornwall, great local food and quality drink, then this most certainly is your place. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Well...having been there several times for drinks, this pub has gorgeous views and a lovely atmosphere with a fire in winter. However we made the bad decision of booking in for dinner tonight. I had a trio of smoked fish with a lemon mayonnaise, and my boyfriend had crab cakes with sweet chilli sauce, looked great on the menu and was actually okay, but then how difficult is it to serve smoked fish which comes vacuum packed and is stored in the fridge with iceberg lettuce, red onions and balsamic vinegar? The crab cakes were obviously frozen and then deep fat fried, but were spicy and well...edible. Why did they serve 3 frozen and fried crab cakes, when one home-cooked 'fat' crab cake would have been sufficient?! These meals were priced at 6-7 pound each which is what caused my frustration. The steaks we ordered weren't awful really; I had a fillet steak whilst my boyfriend had a sirloin steak. His steak was undercooked and grizzly, whereas mine was overcooked. Mine came served with a crunchy potato rosti, little did i know that this meant 3 deep-fried frozen mushy rostis, served with yet more deep fried...onion rings, cherry tomatoes and peas...do you think this was worth a little under £14- NO!! The service was awful, took 15 minutes to clear our plates, which is okay...but coupled with the fact that we were never offered a dessert menu or coffees is just truly awful...but then maybe it was because they had a party (god knows how!) of maybe 15 people in, with 4 staff!! Heaven forbid they ever have a full restaurant!! They would need the same number of staff in! To summarise this restaurant is overpriced, with bad pub-grub at its best, certainly not worth the money...and with added deep-fried fat! Drinks are okay, but would certainly not advise going for any kind of food there!

The Heron Inn Malpas really is one of the best pubs to go and eat in the whole of Cornwall, situated in the sleepy village of Malpas, with beautiful scenic views overlooking the river the pub truly is worth the trip 2 miles down from Truro!
The food, though somewhat overpriced (£17.95 fillet steak??) is well above average, the evening menu in particular offering numerous culinary delights.. I must recommend the specials board, generally the best home cooked meals on offer!!
The staff (particularly the male bar staff) excel in keeping the wonderful environment the Heron has become accustomed to. The diverse mix of young exuberant and attractive staff make the Heron a pleasant place to spend your lunch, evening or even just a quick afternoon tea, (now open ALL DAY)!!
I whole heartedly recommend the Heron Inn Malpas to one and all!!
