Although former residents of Didsbury, we are now living in the U.S.A. and were called suddendy back to the U.K. because of the death of an infant child. While visiting a very close friend of many years, whose wife was dying of cancer at Christies, he took us to the Royal Oak for lunch, He, obviously, was in a state of great despondancy ( his wife died several weeks later) but our time at Royal Oak was like a breath of fresh air for him and for us. The atmosphere, the customer service of the personnel ,and the fantastic copious Ploughman's lunch all contributed to raise our spirits and really made what would have been a very sad and solemn lunch to be rather a high light of our time back in dear Didsbury
