After a horrible first visit to The Marine, we gave this place a second chance as it is now under new management. Bad decision.
Not a clue how to provide customer service, extremely badly organised, very overpriced and stingy with the food which is 'nothing to write home about'.

Went upstairs to the new restaurant in the Marine Hotel. Contemporary decor, very nice but don't eat in it if you are hungry or in a hurry. The service is slow and the portions small. £14.95 average price for main course and there are no vegetables and don't expect the chef to go out of his way to do anything special for you ie mashed potaoes which are on the menu but are not ready. Why go there when the Toolbooth does a 2 course lunch for £12.00. Don't expect any satisfaction if you complain because all they are interested in is high profit margins profit margins

The place and changed hands and had a face lift. There is a new menu and staff.

What can I say, don't go there!! I can't comment on the beer but the 'food' is best avoided. We thought we'd treat ourselves to lunch out after a walk on the lovely beach. We ordered a toastie and a venison burger, first complaint: the toastie came about 20 mins before my partners burger... er... don't know about you, but when we go for lunch we like to have it together! The burger turned up eventually with some measly salad and greasy chips but was actually cold. It was returned promptly after the first bite and came back from the kitchen having been reheated (isn't that a H&S no no!!) under the grill, salad and all! When we complained to the rude little waiter who was barely alive and certainly not very clean, he told us to see the barman if we weren't happy!! Not the chef, but the pleasant South African barman who had nothing to do with it other than taking the order. This is a ploy to stop you complaining me thinks! Toastie consisted of cheap white bread, a processed cheese slice and raw onion...lovely!!! Never, ever again. The Marine are going in my new book under the 'avoid at all cost' section. Be warned! Go to Molly Gunnings.
