I arrived late 9.11 ( an omen of impending doom )? and upon arrival I pressed the call bell and then waited while browsing the information racks. After about 6/7 minutes I noticed the sign informing me to seek help at the main bar. The young lady behind the counter was most friendly and dropped what she was doing to check us in. When shown the room I asked is this the famed room 8 i was told about on the telephone ?” “No I was told, so explained that in a prior telephone conversation with your house keeper, she had led me to believe this was one of the better rooms. Off she went and then took us to room 8, but I had to fill another form in?
At this point I enquired about food but was informed that the chef had just left.
Any snacks / sandwiches? We asked but no.the kitchen shuts at nine so if we had been told right away might of had a chance . However very helpfully the young lady offered us some take away menus and said it would be ok to have them delivered.
A quick pint in the pub. Despite an entry into the bar which was like a scene from American werewolf in London, I tried to order at the bar but when a pushy local pushed in in front of me as I was a trifle indecisive I thought forget it and left to buy a drink from the costcutter. Back to food ;-we opted to go ourselves on a mission to Mission. One damp kebab later we were in room 8. However I was initially disappointment was soon born out with fact . The room was very small and cold. In fact so small that if you take into account the arc of the door opening and pull the drawers out there’s less room to move than an 8 x 4 builders board. Not that you could sit down double room one chair? What's the other person supposed to do watch?
A quick shower and off to bed I thought as 9.5 hour drive takes it out of you. NOT POSSIBLE THE SHOWER IN ROOM EIGHT SHOULD BE CONDEMD. IT IS LEATHALY DANGEROUS AS WATER IS LEAKING FROM THE REAR OF THE HOUSING WHERE IT IS LIABLE TO COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE MAINS SUPPLY. So I wasn’t getting in that ! Coupled with the fact it wasn't the cleanest of facilities .please see attached pictures.I had booked a double bed but got a pair of elderly twin beds push together. This leaves a nasty uncomfortable dual seem right down the middle so if you want to cuddle your partner you have to lie in the valley so to speak. Cuddling was not on as my girlfriend was so cold she slept with her cloths on! I was a bit tired from the long drive so decided to watch TV, only to find the generic remote did not pair up with the TV. Up I get b to manually skip thru the channels ….snow was the best I could get out of the antiquated “telesaurus “. 2 channel both with rubbish on (not thier your fault ) so I’m up again to turn it off. No one was available to proved the access key to ther internet so I read for a short time the decided to go to sleep…Mrs asleep and only bedside switches on that side … up again despite the main pub sign glaring through my shut eyelids through a gap in the curtains I finally drift of. 30 mins later it’s the fire alarm. So what do you do stay in bed and risk burning to death or get up get dressed and proceed to fire point as directed on reverse of door. I decided to nip down and check it out, at reception I bumped into someone I presume was as member of staff that “ drunks had set it off “ skylarking, while leaving the pub. I was fuming so went outside for a smoke as not to waste the journey downstairs. Try to get back in and door lock, by what I know now to be an automatic system. Having had no instruction open after hours entry I struggled with the keys long enough to satisfy myself they did not fit. So it’s round t the front and back in thru “ the slaughtered lamb”. On the walk round I stumbled on the side entrance and as an ex con instinct led me to try the keys and I was I but lost in the old bulidings warren. Back in my room wide-awake couldn’t get back to sleep for ages with creaking springs digging in me. 1st thing in the morning I was keen to leave even as the great unwashed. its the only place to stay in eastchurch so i suggest staying in sheerness.

Nice to see the Shurland Hotel open again under new management. We had a lovely visit for dinner and drinks tonight and found the couple running the hotel to be extremely friendly, and the quality of food extremely high (using locally sourced organic produce). We fully intend to stay overnight soon , and heartily recommend visiting this establishment for excellent food and hospitality.

this hotel under new management and by all account they seem to be getting things right. very helpful staff rooms spotless bar food excellent all be it small portions so a little advice from seasoned hotel stayer 1. reduce their price 70 stg per double per night is expensive when facilities provided are limited 2.food: portion small and breakfast could be better as they seemed to skimp on the quality of the sausage and get some home made brown bread the little things count also cab fare from local train station was 18 pounds and for a hotel with n ot a lot around it it can prove expensive to travellers with no car to get around perhaps they could do a deal for local cab company to reduce cost to guests....they are learning but have a bit to go

We had a very dissapointing lunch here today. 2 sandwiches on no frills bread with a small pot of coleslaw 2 cups of tea for the princely sum of £12.30 and we had to wait half an hour for our order to arrive. Rip-off Britain's top hotel/pub. We certainly won't go there again!

Really uncomfortable bed in a room above the bar that managed to stay noisey until half past midnight (on a Thursday?). When I asked if there was a quieter room I was told 'no' as they were 'fairly fully booked'. Only communication from staff was a phone call in the morning telling me to check out at 1030. Website checkout time says 1030-1130. Nice to know they want you straight out the door. Won't be going back.

General Review: could have had more staff at breakfast had to wait for dishes and then had to wait for table to be cleared but overall the hotel was good i would certinley stay again

General Review: Fantastic breakfast as per usual and clean, comfortable rooms. However, the shower was impossible to use as it was so hot, a similar theme to previous stays here where the shower head kept falling off the wall. The visit was marred by reduced times for food service, etc due to a wedding event the nxt day.

Clean. Simple but effective. Nice size. Good sized furniture.,It is hard to say anything other than positives about our stay. The only thing that perhaps we could have had more info about was the breakfast procedure. We guessed that we just needed to sit and wait for our order to be taken but we waited a while and was starting to think that perhaps we needed to get somebodys attention. However we later found out that there was extra work load that morning so that explained the wait. Maybe just a little notice in the rooms or at reception could tell people that all they need to do is sit and wait. Top stay though. Many thanks.
