Riverside Caravan Park has just recently been taken over by new owners.......After reading some of the bad feedback from last summer I thought I should offer some good feedback! Since takeover the campsite has changed for the better....... For a start there is a New Warden (situated on the top field) called Doug. If you need any help...from pitching your tent to hooking up your electrics Doug is more than happy to help! He also has lots of uesful information about the area and can offer advice on where to visit if you fancy a day out! There is a new Childrens playground also goal posts and plenty of space to kick a ball or fly kite's. The shower and toilet area are kept spotless and are cleaned (from what I saw) at least 3 times daily. The club that was on site has started doing food....and let me tell you, I'm fussy about where and what I eat but their food was amazing and you actually see it being prepared so you know its fresh! And its an absolute BARGIN! The club is now open everyday from 11am right through til the small hours of the morning (2am) They also have, bingo, bands/singers and quizes on a regular basis! The shop is still there and although its very small (as they had to make space for the kitchen!) has all sorts of things that you'd need...even milk (the old owners whould only stock products that had a long sell by date)Its also open all day! The caravan site is just lovely and has really improved! Last time I visited (may 2006) we found our camping pitch and pitched the tent only to be told by the warden (after she'd watch us pitch) that we were 2 foot out (but still on our pitch?).....she made us take the tent down and re-pitch! Thank God she's gone!! The new Warden is far more friendly and a real credit to the site! Theres a one way system (on the top field) and speed restriction in operatin.......this is purely for safety of others, mainly the Children who are excited about getting to the playground (which can be seen from where ever you pitch/camp on the field!) Making it great for the parents to relax and always being able to see their children! If you are caught speeding or going the wrong way....you'll not get told off like you would have done in 2006. You'll just be asked...'would you mind slowing down a little'....but again its just for the kids safety! This campsite is now so popular you have to be quick and book in advance!

Before going camping over Easter to this site I was getting quite worried that we may be kicked off after reading the reviews. However, we had a fantastic time. We were pitched in tents at the perimeter of the sheep field by the children's play area. The only time we saw the warden or security person was when we arrived and he showed us where to pitch. We were told no rules about noise etc and both him and the people in the office were really friendly and helpful. There were 4 families camping together and we had a lot of alcohol with us which is why I was worried we would be kicked off, now whether it was because of where we were pitched I don't know but we never had one complaint and it was very peaceful there. Alot of the children were ill whilst we were camping, and one of our smallest had been really ill all weekend, until we had to find a local GP, the staff we very helpful with numbers to hand and giving us directions, and when the doctor had told us to give him yoghurt we went to the shop but they had none, one of the staff gave us some of their own so he had got something to eat. I think the facilities are really good, staff are friendly and the food in the club was nice and reasonably priced. Could do with a bit more to do in the games room for the kids but that is definately my only criticism and I would go back there again.

I would have to agree with other reviews this is a site which tolerates children, but does not welcome them. When my daughter fell over and cut her knee she did what most children would do and cried (only for five minutes I might add). I was later questioned by the warden to why she was crying as some busy body had apparently complained. We booked this site for my husbands 40th and thought from the name Riverside that we would be somewhere close to a river. However we found that our tent was on A row which is about four feet from a very busy main road only seperated by a hedge. We didn't get much sleep and was worried if a vechicle collided slightly it would be in our tent. We did complain and was offered a possible move, however we were only staying one more and had a day trip planned so just put with it one more night. To cut it short this is a clean ROADSIDE campsite where children who cry will soon be known to the warden.

Were not sure if we actually visited the same site as all of the other people that have left reviews. It seems we were somewhere else! We booked well in advance and when we arrived there was no room for our tent, so we ended up pitched on the childrens play area next to the animal enclosure. Really noisy. Facilities were too far away and were unclean. The floor was water logged as the showers leaked when in use. There was lots of rubbish in the toilets and in the washing up area. The shops only open for a total of 2 hours a day in half hour stints. We were very disapointed that we were still made to pay £14.00 a night even though we wernt on a proper camping pitch. All the other pitches were very cramped. Wouldn't recommend this site to others.

Not sure if the previous review had enjoyed their stay or not ? However I would disagree on some points. We also arrived on the Friday and we were greeted warmly by the Warden, who explained the site rules, which made perfect sense to us ! After all who wants children running around your tent or playing football up against your caravan. We were a party of 4 adults and 6 children and felt thre was plenty to keep the children occupied, a large playing field with adequate equipment, tennis courts and a games room.Additionally we were given plenty of leaflets detailing nearby activities for the children. We also felt the Warden didnt walk-round she strolled round, yes obviously checking that site rules were being observed, but also stopping to chat just to make sure that everyone was ok.We found this very reassuring, even more so when she walked around at Midnight! We thought we were seeing double when we went to use the toilets at 7am the following morning it was the Warden cleaning them. Credit has to go to the owners of Riverside on appointing someone so dedicated and approachable. The toilets/showers were spotless and a joy to use, with reference to the shop.( again run by the Warden ) Yes the hours are limited but it stocks the essentials and you are given the shop times on your arrival, and there is a supermarket 10 mins away. The bar / club is a bonus, again child friendly, and the couple who serve you are very efficient. The only downside to this was on the Saturday evening the "locals/residents" had arranged to play bingo and this didnt finish until just after 10pm, we found there was a very different atmosphere after our very pleasant friday evening. We thought it odd that bingo should dominate the majority of a Saturday evening. We would highly reccomend this site and congratulate the owners on making us feel welcome and safe.

riverside caravan park Arrived on the friday night warden gave us are orders what we were allowed to do and not etc. As we were setting up she went on a walk about giving us the once over she carried on doing so for the first night after that she was fine no problems from her or us The park is kept spottless and toilets were a pleasure to use which makes a change compared to other sites The park is not the best for young children and teenagers as there is only a slide and swings for them and the shop could do with being open longer apart from them couple of things highly recomended

Lovely quiet site. We spent a week with our 3 young children who are well catered for with a purpose built games room, tennis court, football pitch and play equipment. How refreshing to find a site where you can sit by your tent without worrying where your children. Toilets and showers are spotlessly clean and when they are being cleaned thre is a 2nd block just a short walk away. A very well organised site to which we will be returning to during half term

Myself and three freinds recently visited The Riverside campsite and I have to say we were not made to feel welcome at all. I do not recommend this site to anybody who wishes to have fun, the warden is very militant and we were ordered to move our tent as our tent ropes were infringing on another campers pitch by a yard (even though the other camper didn't mind. As a '20 something' we stayed awake quite late on a Saturday night and were talking and laughing which the warden frowned upon!! Ameneties were poor (showers etc) and would only recommend for elderly.

We have just returned from this caravan park. we had a fantastic stay and found the whole park extremely friendly and helpful. we have 2 children and found the site very accomodating. they have a play area for the children and plenty of open space for them to burn off their energy. if you have well behaved children there is never a problem on any camp site. the toilets were kept spotless. there is a 2nd block which is always open if the main toilet block is closed for cleaning. we will definately be returning. a peacefull holiday site.

the camp is situated in a nice area but it not suitable for children we went with a group of families and were not made to feel welcome any problems that arose we were blamed for it is not a family site. toilets were clean but were not open for your needs all the time. it also states no dogs allowed so we had to leave ours at home but when we arrived we found many with dogs of there own. deffinately would not go back.

This is a very strict site which I would not recommend to anybody with children. It is not at all child friendly. This site i would recommend for older couples who want peace. The shop is only open twice a day for half an hour. The toilet block was closed between 6.30am - 8.30 am for cleaning. The bar was only open at weekends and only evenings. Even though we had a nice weekend I would never go back to this site again.
