We booked the function suite for the day - big mistake! Were kept waiting 45 mins outside before someone turned up with the key. The lighting was abysmal - we had to bring our own lamps. We had to carry tables from the dining room into the function room ourselves and rearrange the chairs. There were unwanted sofas and food warming ovens left in the hall which we couldn't take out. The new management were extremely rude and bullying and need to take serious training on how to manage fee paying customers.

I have stayed in the Emlyn Arms many times over the years, usually on business and I booked in for the night of 24th April 09. I noticed a promotion advertised in the local press and hotel offering a third off meals between 5pm and 6.30pm Monday to Friday and decided to take advantage of this offer eating between 5.30 and 6pm. The manager, Mr Rod Evans served me along with 3 other members of staff during this period. The restaurant was virtually empty and the hotel very quiet, however getting service was extremely hard work. The television in the room was barely working, the shower faulty, walls crumbling and very noisy. I instinctively felt any complaint would be ignored (how right I was!) so decided to check out the following morning and get back home making a mental note never to stay here again. At 10am the following morning I paid the manager (Mr. Rod Evans), after which he handed me a bill and I noticed I had not been given the third off my food bill. I politely pointed this out to Mr Evans who said "YOU DON'T QUALIFY" I asked why but he seemed to be in denial about the whole promotion so I drew his attention to the advertising everywhere. "I DON'T KNOW WHAT TIME YOU ATE!" he replied aggressively. I asked him to take my word for it and pointed out it was a very small amount of money £3.31 could this over charge not be refunded to me? "NO YOU DON'T QUALIFY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TIME YOU ATE, IF YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A DISCOUNT IT WILL BE SENT TO YOU IN THE POST!" It was getting more bizarre by the minute and I said- I will be 100miles away by tonight-- " NO! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TIME YOU ATE AND I WILL HAVE TO CHECK WITH MY STAFF, IT'S THEIR FAULT!" He made no attempt to check. It was obvious he didn't believe me despite having served me himself during the promotion times! His whole demeanour was intimidating, aggressive and extremely surly. I am at a loss to understand why the manager adopted this bizarre and aggressive attitude towards me and if he intended to intimidate a lone female guest, he succeeded! Be warned patronising, intimidating, surly ineptitude is on the menu here!!!! I was traumatised after one nights stay. The managers behaviour appears psychotic and I intend to warn all ladies, in fact anyone, do not book in here unless you want to leave in despair as I did! I have not been refunded and I have written to the Welsh Tourist Board and Trading Standards as I would not want anyone else to suffer at the hands of Mr Rod Evans if it can possibly be avoided in the future!
