I love the place, I really do. In my time I have been to the Donkey Derby on several buissness trips out of my way. The staff are human in every way. They chat to you as if you are a human being and not a robot. I like that, although I would admit that the service can be a bit slow at times, depending if they are mid-conversation with friends who also work or visit there. Also maybe they could be told to tidy around a little. Its not scruffy but can seem clutterd when nobody is actually in... I shall give praise to the young lady Chantelle who works there. Her service manner is spot on. I also miss the chats with the great bar man Andrew, who I,ve not seen for a while. He would have made a good manager... In short, if you ever have the pleasure to visit Chesterfield, then pop into the Donkey Derby... Its great!

We had the misfortune to visit last night for the first time. We made arrangements to meeet some old friends there and hoping it would be a regular meeting hole. The pub company may well teach the staff to serve drinks etc., but manners were non-existant. One particular female was downright rude. We will not be going again, and I know the other five people are of the same opinion. Manners maketh man and cost nothing, and pub companies should remember this when training today's youth. I can speak from personal knowledge as a younger retired and successful ex-restauranter/publican. A new meeting place will now be saught.
