We called in on to this pub by chance on our way home from a day at the coast with our teenage daughters. We first of all enjoyed drinks in a spacious garden at the back of the pub, with nearby blackbird providing relaxing musical entertainment. In the restaurant we enjoyed a delicious meal. Complimentary olives and oven-warm fresh bread were offered as a taster. Our main courses were beautifully presented and were of outstanding flavour and quality. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive to our two daughters. Definitely one of our most memorable meals. We will certainly return again.

The Beard chap must have been unlucky or in a different pub. We had been in a few times for a snack lunch. For daughter's birthday, five of us went for Sunday lunch, including our 4 year old granddaughter, and were lucky enough to be given "the Snug table.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and rather attractive (sorry), the landlord and landlady smiled, unusual for such a busy pub, and we had a really excellent meal. No fuss, just good food at a reasonable price.
We are not, obstensibly, pub people but we will be going back often!
Thanks

Beautiful pub with good parking across the road and spectacular views to the South Downs, with an attractive garden to the rear.
Service is friendly and they have *chefs* not cooks in the kitchen. Remember that this is not a 100 seater - it's a small restaurant sized kitchen, and if it's busy you'll wait longer. This is good restaurant quality food, not pub food even if you eat at the bar. Like a good restaurant, they also take care over the presentation of the food.
It's all cooked specially so you will have to wait for your treat.
I have been so consistently impressed that I use the White Horse to entertain clients.
I am taking my parents there today and I expect another visit where I have time look forward to the wonderful food ahead and talk. It's somewhere where what is delivered is worth the wait.
So book, allow time for your meal to be prepared and enjoy your meal.

I dont know which pub Mr Beard went to but my experience could not be more different. The food and service were of the highest order, this was across three visits over three months including christmas eve.

A place to avoid on a Saturday evening we were a party of Fourteen, my wife ordered a Steak and ended up with a Hamburger and was told that was how they served steak! my Lamb was under cooked and so was another member of the party and so returned for correcting we again were informed that was how they served Lamb! Myself having completed a city and guilds 701 and 2 know this not to be correct. Service is also a problem for the staff who think all patrons are a hindrence. Coffee is served with out saucers and if you are lucky you might get some sugar!

Great food, great atmosphere, the landlord is a bit of a character.
