Oh dear God, why is it that the Scots seem incapable of combining good food, pleasant surroundings and quality service?
The Kirkstyle provides two of those three essential ingredients but if you have the expectation that your custom will be apprecaited and that you will receive much in the way of a warm welcome then you will be very disappointed indeed.
Excellent food - nice, delightfully quirky surroundings, good beer - but dreadful service and certainly not with a smile. If anything, you will probably feel like apologising to the owner for having inconvenienced her by visiting.

The Kirkstyle is a wonderful building, decorated nicely. It is warm and cosy inside and busy enough without being uncomfortable.
The food for adults was well presented and very tasty. The food for children was low quality. My son's pizza was straight from the freezer and tasteless and his chocolate ice-cream was equally low quality compared to the first-rate deserts served to the adults.
I would return but not as a family venue for dinner. This is a place for adults.
Staff were efficient but hurried and monosylablic.
