Hi, I was sorry to read of Mr & Mrs Ellison's disappointing visit and the response of the previous owner
Bill and I took over the Bateman Arms in Nov 07 and I can assure you the bed is repaired and the curtain rail secured and I would sincerely hope that The Bateman would be given a second chance:)
Regards Diana

We like this place. New owners are professional and enthusiastic, the ambience is spot and the service good. Worth a stay

My wife drew the curtains and the curtain rod fell down and bruised her arm, in the middle of the night while we were both asleep the bed collapsed.
When I complained to the owner by letter his reply was very arrogant asking what else do we expect from an old hotel and antique furniture.
It was clear from the eloquence of his letter that he had had a lot of practice at answering complaints.
What amazed me is that there was not a word of apology in his letter - He clearly thought that the fact that the room was not fit for purpose was our fault.
I would never stay there again and would encourage potential residents to look elsewhere
