This pub was recommended to us by friends, the ambiance was welcoming when we arrived, with the menu’s written up on blackboards with a large selection of food, including the traditional Sunday roast, our expectation was that the food would be home made (No Chance).
We remarked first, that Gordon Ramsey would not approve of such a large selection, it was very busy and while waiting at the bar with a drink we noted how fast the food arrived to clients after being ordered.
I had for my starter “prawns in garlic” these were hard which is a sign that they were cooked prawns reheated from frozen, containing a lot of water and just warm (presumably heated by the garlic butter) as they were in there shells I would have expected a finger bowl. My wife had a prawn cocktail which she described as average with a very thin Marie Rose sauce.
I ordered Yellowfin Snapper the first time I had tried it and didn’t know what to expect, I should have sent it back after the first taste, the flesh was a dirty white and smelt strong of fish for the rest of the meal, my wife had the Shropshire tart and we shared a portion of vegetables which were green beans, carrots, leaks with new potatoes, the vegetables were tasteless and in a pool of water, potatoes dry also tasteless.
I remarked to the Owner/Manager? Unfortunately after paying “Disappointing and shame it was not fresh”, to which he remarked “they were, but we had to zap them as we were so busy” and appeared not to care for our opinion.
This experience was so disappointing I suspect all the food was micro waved from frozen, I regret now that did not make a stand and send the food back or not pay for it. £53 wasted.
I shall not return or recommend to this pub to others.
