Having been to the Thyme & Plaice for the first time, I can honestly say, it was excellent food and excellent value for money.
It is refreshing to be able to go to a restaurant and eat food that is hot from beginning to end, in fact I would say a rarity!
We ate from the set menu (3 courses £15.95), which offered a great selection, again unusual, as set menus are often limited. The meals were cooked to perfection and well balanced-you don't come away hungry. To have meals cooked to this standard and receive healthy portions, you really couldn't complain.
I have one criticism and that is the side order of chips were not home cooked but from the bag. I know I'm being picky, but when everything else is fresh and home-made, even the ice cream, the chips need to fall in line.
Will we return? We're already planning our next visit.

Over the years, I must have been here coming up to a dozen times. The restaurant used to be a pub and the layout is basically a reception room (with the pub bar) and dining room with hatch to the kitchen so you have a glimpse of what's going on in there. What I like about The Thyme & Plaice is firstly the service - they are well trained and extremely helpful and focussed on you having a good meal and experience. Secondly, the menu - relatively short and simple, which means freshly cooked food, cooked in their own kitchen, well-sourced ingredients that speak for themselves. Thirdly, the dining room is quite small with about 30 covers I would say, you don't feel in the least bit rushed should you book your table for 7pm and can comfortably have a relaxed meal over 4 or 5 hrs. On the night in question, we started off with champagne cocktails in the bar, selected our meal in our own time and ambled into the dining room when the starters were ready. Being a party of 6, we sampled most of the starters - the food has its main ingredients such as scallops and is presented in an interesting and well-thought-out manner, with just enough on the plate relative to its part in the meal. For my main course, I chose rabbit which I've only had before as part of a stew, and it was amazingly tender and delicious. The Thyme & Plaice is particularly renowned for its steaks, delicious meat which it cooks to perfection, and I'm a big fan of their fillet steaks in particular. Their fish dishes are also excellent. Each main course is served with a side selection of vegetables, all freshly prepared in the kitchen. But the best part of the meal came last on this particular night - I'm a big fan of puds, I chose something that I thought was going to be a rum baba type of thing but, hope against hopes, it was a meringue made on the premises - something I've never come across before, in fact there are so many restaurants that serve up pre-pared foods in so many different formats that just disappoint. Not so The Thyme & Plaice - their attention to detail and the whole dining experience makes going there an absolute pleasure, it's relaxed and very good value for money. And the meringue - chewy, crispy, creme patissiere, fresh beautiful selection of berries, absolute heaven. They make their own ice cream as well. They do good, generous plates of cheese - in fact that sums up the whole menu, good and generous plates of food, properly cooked and presented, food as it really should be. If you haven't been, you really need to try it. The selection of wines is good and it's a nice, relaxed place for a special occasion. The tables aren't packed in, although fairly close at times (the tables are set out specifically for that night's performance) and the staff are friendly, efficient and know their menu. The Thyme & Plaice is everything that you would like to see in a restaurant, a rare find indeed! Starters are around £5-£7, mains around £10-£15, puds around £4-£6, great cocktails, good coffee and liquers to top it all off.
