The service I received last night at the Viceroy was truly appalling. In 37 years of dining out I have never been treated so badly. I visited the Viceroy with my wife and ordered a pint of Knigfisher and glass of water.
We then ordered two Lamb Tikka Massala dishes for our main course. The waiter brought us two Lamb Tikka's by mistake. When I politely pointed out that he had made a mistake he started arguing that it was I who had made the mistake, then pointed at my wife and said it was her fault. Momentarily lost for words - I only wanted a bit of curry sauce to pour on top - I told the waiter that I did not appreciate his tone of voice. This appeared to get his goat and he started ranting on about having 30 years experience in the restaurant business etc...
I decided that we had better pay for our drinks and go. When I told the waiter that our night was ruined and we wanted to settle up and go he changed his tune and started to insist that he would cook us what we had ordered himself. I insisted that we would leave and he added insult to injury by charging us 5.10 for the pint and the glass of tap water.
To sum up if you want to be insulted and shouted at by surly waiters and ripped off this is the place for you.
