I love the Station Hotel - as the Royal Highland Hotel will always be known to West Coasters. So many times my travel arrangements have messed up and I've been left waiting for hours for a lift and been consoled by their great soup and exceptional scones. It was taken over a few years ago and the bar was turned into a trendy restaurant, Ash. Some horrible sliding doors replaced their beautiful heavy front door. I was so worried it would go the way of New Scotland but, hurrah, the staff are still so accommodating, the enormous stag's head with reindeer horns is still there and the scones are better than ever. Very good value and tasty lunch too. I go to Inverness once a fortnight and always stop in.

Good Points: It was clean and convenient for the railway station
Bad Points: The room was rather small
General Review: The limited parking was a problem. Although the food was first class(we dined in the restaurant on the first 2 nights of our 3 night stay), the waiting-on staff who were not over-worked seemed at times innatentive - we had to wait ages on the second occasion for the vegetables to arrive. We were not asked to taste the wine. Had we been paying full price for our stay we would have been very concerned about this.
