I used to hate going to the dentist then i moved home and this was the nearest NHS services. I went with dread but have since lost all fear of dentists, i've seen two or three from this surgery over the years and all have been polite, friendly and helpful. The girls on reception are not very consistent with there friendly service but it is there, they sometimes seem stressed, busy and can be a little short but mostly are fine, ive had FAR worse elsewhere so please dont be put off by some of the other comments. Its often busy but they fit you in as early as they can (ive never had to wait to long). And overall, im very happy with the care i get here. I do recommend!

The reception is always busy so I can understand why some reviews about the receptionists have been bad, although Ive had no probs with them, in fact Ive just spoken to one on the phone and she was very chirpy and helpful. My grumble is with the dentists. Now Im middle aged but not a grumpy old woman but these are my experiences on my last two trips. Ive been in the practice for many years and had a really good dentist but he left. The next one I had was not very gentle and smelt of cigarettes, so I changed, 2nd dentist was too laid back and casual and whizzed round my teeth in a routine appointment in 10seconds flat. After rightly suggesting a referral to someone more experienced in crowning a tooth with a fractured root he then announced the he "wouldn't touch it with a barge pole". Not what you say to a patient! Six month latter decided to see another dentist in the practice, I walked in his surgery he was propped up on his elbow obviously bored, he clenched my head is an arm lock pressed his hand firmly and uncomfortably on my left eye to examine. I complained about not being able to bite on a back tooth, without a word he rammed the x rays in my mouth after poking about said "when are you having your crown then" "sorry" I said "when are you having your molar crowned" I pointed out that instead of asking when Im going to have my tooth crowned, he should first be telling me it needed it! He apologized for his little 'joke', I wasn't amused. After having my gum cut during the polish which gave me a sore gum for days, I left to go home and find a new dentist.

I used to work as a nurse at Slipshoe Street Dental Surgery for six years. I have always found the girls at the desk provide a warm welcome with a smile both to their patients and staff. They do work long hours 8am til 5pm providing a caring, reliable, helpful service and are very accommodating where possible. I have also been a patient at this surgery for the past ten years and I have always had excellent professional treatment. The dentists are all very good.

I gotta be honest, the front desk staff are not friendly at all. They all looked so faffed off and wanna go home. The treatment has always been good but for God sake replace the front desk...you got a crew of grumpy gertrudes there

Do doctor and dentist receptionists go through a particular customer service course that sets them aside from society at large? I waited 10 minutes for the phone to be answered (and have often stood at the reception desk whilst they chat among themselves) and then as an emergency (temp crown fitted yesterday broke today!) I got the "that's all I can offer you - take it or leave it!" comment. I realise finding urgent sudden childcare is my problem not theirs, but a little empanthy and understanding would go a long way. My dentist himself is lovely - such a shame the receptionists let the practice down time and time again.

I've been visiting this practice regularly for years and i'm amazed by some of the comments people have made. I have alwats found the staff - receptionists, nurses, hygienists and dentists - to be friendly, professional and helpful. My teeth were in a pretty poor state when I started going but the excellent treatment I have received has made a huge difference.

my daughter and I have been patients at this practice for over 10 years and never had a problem.Only once have we been rung to re book appointments due to staff annual leave.I fully understand that the reception staff being a tad curt from time to time as it does get really busy at the desk.I personally would have no problem reccomending this sugery to anybody at all.My dentist has built up a great rapour with my daughter and makes her feel at ease each and every visit, its good to actually find a dentist that can be friendly and remain professional

Very disappointed with my visits here- I was going because they are (I believe) the only NHS dentists in the area. NHS... I was being charged private fees when I should have been on the NHS. They refused to save my tooth, when it could have been root canaled- instead lied and said the only thing they could do was pull it. All my appointments were in and out- very rushed. All in all- really wouldn't recommend this dentists to anyone..

I only stumbled across this site looking for the telephone number. How funny reading these reviews, I thought it was just us. Even the kids ask why they are so grumpy. One in particular, I guess she knows who she is, has never made eye contact or smiled in all years I have been going there. Being busy does not excuse this utter lack human interaction; a customer service course might be in order or a change of career. The dentists and nurses are lovely so don't let the evil witches put you off.

Having used this dental surgery for a number of years I can say that there have been occasions when on the telephone and face to face where the receptionists have come across quite rude, being under pressure does not excuse rudeness to customers who are paying good hard earned money to go there. Otherwise I think the dentists are lovely and helpful and what you want especially if you are a little afraid of going to the dentist

I have to say that I have never had any problems with any of the receptionists here. Yes, they are extremely busy as it is a very popular dental surgery. I appreciate they may be a little curt sometimes - but that is probably due to pressure. Nothing bad to say about this surgery at all. Thank you all very much.

The dentists here are lovely but be warned they are closely guarded by a pack of unfriendly, unhelpful, rude, and aggresive receptionists who delight in making your visit more painful than a root canal.
