Average food, average, tired room, poor service and the worst nights sleep you can pay for! Avoid this pub at all costs unless you are going to watch sports and drink plenty!

This is a copy of my email to Janice at the New Holly, to which to date hav had no reply.(dated May 1st 2011) Enough said........... Good evening Janice, I was in your pub yesterday lunchtime and was subjected to your landlord/manager/husbands “warm” hospitality. Having travelled to your pub on the recommendation of the owner of a local fishery where I was staying, my wife and I were looking forward to watching my team, Newcastle United play Liverpool at 12 noon. Watching the match on the screen nearest the pool table (away from any diners) I politely asked the aforementioned “barman” if he could turn up the commentary and turn down the music drowning it out. I was informed that it was “policy” to leave the music as it was during games. I accepted this even though this is obviously a football/sports pub judging by the memorabilia on display. Immediately the game finished the channel was changed to the Man United game where upon the music was turned off. When I reminded the “barman” of the “pub music policy ”during matches I was informed that he was a Man United fan, he then laughed and turned his back, ignoring my comments regarding customer service/relations. I should have realised the attitude towards fans other than those of Man United when I saw the Blackpool shirt adorning the toilet lobby wall. He should visit pubs in Newcastle to see how publicans treat fans of clubs other than those of Newcastle United. He seems to be a typical “local” Man United fan who should be reminded that Blackpool and Blackburn are both at least twenty miles closer to you hostelry (unless of course he commutes to work from Manchester),which I doubt. I cannot deny that the defeat to Arsenal, watched in your pub by your pseudo Man United fans without any musical accompaniment was certainly sweet music to my ears. Oh to have stayed to see his face. This vitriolic comment may seem over the top but it would not have been an issue if the music had stayed on during the Man United game, which would then not given rise to me thinking that your man was “playing to the crowd” in his attempt at getting a cheap laugh at the expense of a paying customer (and his wife). This correspondence in varying more concise form will be circulated to all websites requesting comments on your hostelry, if I haven’t calmed down and started thinking rationally by this time tomorrow night. I await your response. Dave Wales Managing Director Chirmarn Group 0191 414 8000 07885796280
