Oscar's is in a nice old hotel building in the centre of Woburn town. Parking is plentiful for dinner, along the high street, or in the parking area opposite the Woburn church. Entering the hotel, there were no indications of where the restaurant was, nor any staff to direct us. We wandered around for a few minutes to find the entrance. The decore is nice, although the place mats were cheap leather, with frayed edges, and mine had old food stuck underneath it. We noticed two flies, one wasp, one daddy longlegs and a couple of small flying things - every restaurant can have these enter, but for the staff not to chase them down does not bode well for standards! My wife selected the sushi starter (brave choice for an "English" themed restaurant - although the sou chef had an Asian name) and Lemon sole fillet wrapped around crab mousse. I had breaded scallops as a starter, with fish of the day (Hake) with a clam "chowder" sauce. The sushi was nicely presented, hoever the rice was "gluggy" rather than "sticky" which spoiled the dish. The scallops where very lightly breaded, and were a delight. The Lemon sole was nicely done, a "pleasant" dish, however the Hake was truly fabulous. (I don't give "fabulous" comments that often!) Sweet perfectly done fish, on crunchy Asian noodles with beans and a fabulous (again!) sauce. Desert was fabulous as well - apparently they employ a pastry chef, and it showed. I had a trio of raspberry desserts - soufle, honey/raspberry jelly and a raspberry mousse in a chocolate "tear" casing - divine. My wife had a trio of sorbets with a vanilla/mango sauce in sesame tuile cups - also excellent. The bill arrived, and we had to send it back as it missed a bottle of wine - we then had to follow the waiter to the bar, as the restaurant card machine was broken. Would I go back? Yes - all up the food was pretty good, the service was excellent - and the water was free! (Even the sparkling water!)
