I'm afraid that this pub has had a chequered history with a string of different landlords in recent years.
The 2 ladies were doing a great job and specialising on steaks. Indeed you could buy a 48oz sirloin!!
Unfortunately the pub has closed again at the end of July 2011.
Allegedly the Brewery that owns it decided to put the rent up by £10,000pa which was the straw that broke the camel's back. So the shortsighted brewery has another empty pub on their hands. And the community is deprived one of its few Businesses, employers and tourist attractions

After the Tom was under new managment i decided to take a drive down there to see what it was like. On arrival i was greated by friendly staff who were very pleasent. We sat in the lounge and had pre drinks before going to sit down for our meal. When our meal arrived after only a 20 minute wait, it was very well presented and was of a great portion size for the price of the meal. I had a chicken topper, the chicken was succulent and very tasty. My husband had a 16oz mixed grill, which just blew him away. The steak was full of flavour and very tender and cooked exactly to his requirement, the staff were there, to cater to our every need, checking if our meals were to standard and if we reguired anymore drinks. When it came to dessert there was a large variety of desserts to choose from, i had the cherry crumble with custard, delicious! My husband couldnt fit one in after the mixed grill, unfortunatly for him. I would recommed this pub to anyboday as i have done to family and friends. It has a warm and friendly environment and it looks like the Tom is back to it former glory since the new owners have taken over.

Tom 'O' The Wood, Rowington. Heard now under new management since April 2011, thought I would try out being local. Staff very friendly, varied menu. Steaks excellent. Good choice of local ales and wines. Well worth a visit.

I came to the Tom O the wood for sunday lunch, my lunch was lovely and all the staff were very helpfull and friendly, but sadly to our amazement we were disturbed by a very abusive woman from across the road using foul language infront of mine and her own children which ruined our day and from what was overheard these people regularly cause disturbances however the meal was fantasic and took that sour taste out of our mouths!
All in all the Tom itself was a brilliant inn, great food and atmosphere and me and my family will be re visiting soon.

On a scale of awfullness, this one is off the scale. First request is for a glass of red wine, "large or small?" Large please. "I'm afraid I don't have enough red wine for a large glass". So I choose a small one - guess what? Not enough red wine for a small glass!! O.k. I'll have a gin and slimline tonic. On being served, I noticed it wasn't slimline - necessary as being a diabetic, non-slimline drinks will increase my blood sugars, especially when not told it wasn't slimline. Guess what? No slimline tonic until tomorrow!!
We ordered food and waited in freezing conditions whilst listening to the woes of the table behind us who were trying to order desserts. after sending several back to be microwaved (one diner commented that hers had beed blitzed not microwaved), and then being informed that half of the desserts they had ordered and paid for were not available, they ordered alternatives. Guess what? There original order turned up after they'd being given their 4th choice!! We awaited our starters - bacon and blackpudding in stilton sauce and soup. when they came the stilton sauce was thinner than semi-skimmed milk and the soup was cold. I asked for the soup to be warmed and 5 minutes later was provided with a bowl of soup that burnt my mouth the minute I tried it. We then complained to the bar staff who said that she'd told us their order han't been delivered on time in a rude manner so I asked to speak to the manager. His first comment was "so your soup was too hot" in an extremely rude and aggressive manner. I told him that I'd worked in retail for over 25 years and I didn't appreciate the manner in which my compliant had been dealt with. He then turned to my husband and asked what business he was in. I replied that I had been in retail business for 25 years to which he replied he wasn't talking to me. He then told the bar staff to refund our money for our food, which we hadn't eaten but NOT for our drinks, which we also hadn't completely drunk. If you want to be served by the rudest, most obnoxious staff I have ever come across then this is the establishment for you.
