I had the unfortunate experience of staying in one of the "deluxe" rooms at Cheadle House. It is fair to say that this venue is in desperate need of refurbishment. The room appeared clean, if you ignored the heavy stains in the carpet. It was worrying to see the disabled hand rail in the bath was loose, and I state that politely. It was near impossible to get the right water temperature whilst having a shower. The dispenser for sanitary bags was also loose and fell off the wall. The toilet roll holder was on the wall behind the toilet and just above the cupboard which made it extremely difficult to reach. The pillows lacked quality and comfort and I suffered a sleepless night. Throughout the night I opted to sleep without one which was a mild improvement. To make matters worse when we ordered our meal in the restaurant/bar (sausage and mash) the waiter arrived with only one meal and we were told the second meal would be brought out in 2mins. Subsequently, 2mins turned into 5mins then 15mins until finally my husband received his meal. Whilst waiting I had to request for my food to be taken back to the kitchen to be kept warm. Once we received our meals we had to chase the waiter for cutlery. The venue and service was a disgrace and I would discourage anyone from staying. The venue has all the appearance of a rundown Premier Inn. Very disappointed as I had high hopes after staying at Theobalds Park.

Good Points: The beds were great. There was plenty of space in the rooms and an added bonus was the soundproofing so no airline noise affecdted us. In addition, the 'coffee on tap' was excellent. Bad Points: The bar menu was woefully inadequate, for a hotel with the De Vere reputation, we were disappointed, having said that the breakfast was fine. General review: An excellent place to stay, very good value for money, the staff were very helpful, and the breakfast excellent. The soundproofing in the rooms made our stay restful, you can hardly hear the planes going over head. Will definately return.
