23rd of November - St Clements Day

23rd of November is the 327th day of the year

St Clements Day:
Clement is one of the earliest Christian saints, and although this is far from undisputed, the successor to Peter as Pope, or the second or third successor. He left behind one epistle, thus a very early Christian document, that communication directed to Corinth and treating the subjects of authority and ministry. He was martyred in about 98AD, supposedly thrown into the sea tied to an anchor. The anchor meant he became associated with sailors, iron workers and blacksmiths. A custom on his day in this country, long abandoned, was clementing, visits made by children to their neighbours asking for apples or money.
