Step back in time to the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum, an ordinary Victorian working-class home, with extraordinary links to Nottinghamshire’s most famous literary son, D.H. Lawrence.

Born into humble beginnings at 8a Victoria Street in 1885, Lawrence developed into a bold and highly experimental writer, revolutionizing modern fiction with his frank portrayals of sexual encounters placed alongside vivid descriptions of the beautiful surrounding countryside, then under threat by rapid industrialization.

Take a guided tour of the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum, feel the warmth of the roaring fire and hear the tales of the family members and local community who inspired, influenced, and nurtured a sickly child into the now infamous literary legend. And did you know that Lawrence was also an artist? Visit our exhibition, which houses several of Lawrence’s original watercolours along with many other items of significance to Lawrence.

To compliment you visit to the Birthplace Museum, you can take a stroll along the Blue Line Trail, a self-guided walk linking local sites significant to D.H. Lawrence, and take in the country views and atmosphere of the small town of Eastwood. If you work up an appetite, why not head to the White Peacock café across the road from the Birthplace Museum, for a locally sourced lunch.
