The timeless beauty of Peel keeps visitors coming back to this ancient fishing port. Located on the west coast, it's known for breathtaking sunsets, with the skies glowing crimson behind Peel Castle - a magnificent ruin situated on top of St Patrick's Isle, beside the harbour. From here, there are unforgettable views of the sea, the town and the surrounding hills. Hill-walkers should enjoy the climb to Corrin's Folly, a 200-year-old monument. Peel is designated a city because of its cathedral, but its narrow streets and small houses are full of olde-world charm. The promenade curves round the wide, sandy beach fringing Peel Bay. A second strand, Fenella Beach, at the causeway by the castle, is a favourite spot for scuba diving and kayaking, and seals and basking sharks are often spotted hereabouts. The cries of seagulls and the scent of kippers smoking fill the air in Peel, with the kipper factory open to visitors. Other attractions include the Manx Transportation Museum, two local history museums (the House of Manannan and Leece museums) and the nearby, luxuriant Glen Maye. Fishing and golf are popular in Peel, which also hosts carnivals, boating weekends, motorcycle rallies, open-air concerts and live music in pubs.
