Chaddesley Corbett is a pretty village with its wide main street lined with a treasure trove of fine buildings, sited thirteen miles north of Worcester, just off the Kidderminster road. It was first recorded in 816; at the time of the conquest (1066) the lands were held by a Saxon woman named Eadgifu or Eddene, William must have been in a benevolent mood for he allowed her to retain her estates until her death when they reverted to the crown. They were given to the Corbett family in the 12th century and sometime during the nex 200 years their name was added to the village (Chaddesley is from Caedesleaghe thought to mean 'Clearance belonging to Ceadda'). The parish church is dedicated to St.Cassian, the only one in the country so named, St.Cassian was born in Alexandria in the fourth or fifth century, he was a teacher and became the Bishop of Antun in North Africa. The church is Norman in origin with a 14th century chancel (one of the best in Britain) and a 18th century tower; the ornate Font dates from 1160. Opposite the church is the 16th century Talbot Inn with its long black & white frontage, it was formally a manor house. The Fox Inn dates from 1843 when the Blacksmith turned part of his house into a pub! The Tudor House was built about 1750, the rear of the building being older that the 18th century front. Other buildings to note are; Batch Cottage; Lychgate House is early Georgian and the Charity House was built in 1812. Chaddesley Corbett holds regular Point to Point race meetings (held since 1925) and with fine walks and a bird sanctuary a little way to the north there is plenty to do and see in this fine village.
