Elton is a tiny village in rural Nottinghamshire, situated on the A52 about eight miles west of Grantham and about nine miles east of Nottingham. The village lies in the Vale of Belvoir, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, whose name means simply 'beautiful view'. On top of a hill, dominating the vale is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland, Belvoir Castle. The castle has seen much action in its time, having been damaged in both the War of the Roses and The English Civil War. As a result, the castle has been rebuilt a number of times in its history. It is still a family home but it is open to the public and indeed is a big tourist attraction in the area. Another attraction close by is the National Trust owned Grantham House. For accommodation you could try The Grange, which is rated five stars by the AA and offers traditional farm house bed & breakfast with full en-suites, TV, tea & coffee facilities and parking. Set in the Vale of Belvoir a stone's throw from the A52 between Nottingham and Grantham, it is also close to a pub serving good food and only five minutes drive to Bingham and Bottesford.
