Trowell is a small village that lies just outside of Nottingham, a few miles to the west. The majority of the village lies between the Nottingham Canal and the River Erewash. The M1 motorway passes close to the village, offering easy access via the nearby junction 25, where it meets the A52 Nottingham to Derby Road. The Trowell Motorway Services lie on the M1 just north of the village, offering motel accommodation close to the City of Nottingham. The Erewash valley is rich in mineral deposits and provides a charming setting for the village of Trowell. The village church is St Helens, which is a Grade II listed building. The building has a chancel that dates back to 1180 but it is known that permission was first given to build a church on the site in 801AD. This suggests that Trowell has possibly been the site of a church for about 1200 years. Indeed, traces of a Saxon church are reputed to have been found under the present chancel. For food, drink and entertainment in Trowell, you could try the Festival Inn, which offers pub food and hosts live music, as well as showing sports television on large screens.
