Goodrich is a quaint village in the Wye Valley off the A40 between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye and bordering the Forest of Dean in Herefordshire. This village is small, growing to the south of Goodrich Castle, which stands a 1 mile away from the village, on an important crossing point of times gone by on a ridge above the river. The castle is a fine example of a building dating back to the 11th century. In 2007 a new visitor shop, centre and café opened – this includes an exhibition charting the castle’s history from 11th century origins to its fall in 1646, with Civil War artefacts from the site. The café serves locally sourced refreshments. At the entrance to the castle is Jollys of Goodrich B&B, Ye Hostelerie Hotel is in the village centre, dating back to 1628 and there is also Granton House B&B. The area has much to offer – canoeing, climbing, horse riding, golf, etc as well as many walks and an abundance of nature. After so much activity, relax in 1 of the 2 pubs here, both serving good food and good beer – The Inn on the Wye and Ye Hostelerie!
