Home to one of the oldest theatre groups in Hampshire the village of Horndean is to be found just off the A3(M) around four miles in from the sea and convenient for the nearby countryside. It was in the 18th century that Horndean was to grow in importance located at it was n the main route between London and Portsmouth. In 1847 events were to happen in Horndean that were to change the village for it was at this time that Richard Gale bought the Ship and Bell Inn – a local family that had enjoyed commercial success this diversity into the licensed trade was to have far reaching effects on the economy of the area. As was the case at the time the pub had a small brewery attached but after this was burned down a new one was built and that in turn led to the George Gales and Company Limited coming into existence and whilst today the brewery is no longer in the family it still produces quality beer today. Horndean has good local amenities and transport links and it is for this reason that the location was ideal for the Hazelton Industrial Estate offering warehousing and industrial facilities to a range of local and national companies.
